Judith Nolan, Sculptor
Judith's Memory Keepers are two dozen sculptures of women who each carry a shield of sacred memory. The medium is clay, glazes, and art waxes. Figures represent different continents and cultures: Native, Asian, European, African, and so on. They are stylized and modern. The lack of facial feature is purposeful, so the viewer can create their own understanding.
Each figure is an archetype representing different expressions of power in knowing who they are. We are born with this knowledge and throughout life and its experiences begin to remember our true essence: created from the same material as the stars, with invincible powers of love, creativity, and to change/grow our spirit.

About Judith
From an early age I have longed to know who I was and where I fit into the universe. I loved reading about the ancients and the stories they told. I found a strong connection between the beauty of the earth and the skies and how I felt. I knew there was something out there I yearned to know. I have traveled throughout my life to many countries and have felt most connected to the ancient sites I have visited. I studied the ancient symbols and was drawn to Sacred Geometry and its language of light. This is the language through which we recognize when our souls are stirred and there is no need for words: a language which connects us to each other and to the realms beyond this time and place. My expressions in art often come from dreams and through meditation.
As a sculptor I tend to initially see not only with my eyes, but with my hands and heart. I work in both clay and stone and both mediums have a language of their own. The original concept will inevitably change. For example, the fissures within a piece of rock often break off leading to something else that lies deeper within. The shape and design of clay changes to reveal a new shape which will invoke a new idea. As an artist, it is the process of creating that is most energizing and satisfying to me.
